Lush Hair Doctor: Review

Being a complete Lush addict, I cannot leave the store without reassuring myself that a black container with 100 gms of a product belongs to me 😀 When I went to the Lush store in Chennai, I decided to pick up “The Hair Doctor”. Although my curly hair seems so perfect on the outside I have a small issue which I’ve been “itching” to share with you guys! (pun intended!)

I have dandruff which isn’t severe. Mild dandruff, minuscule in size here and there (the hairstylist in the salon called it “dust dandruff” :P) thanks to my scalp which has turned oily this summer! 🙁 So I’ve been trying to get rid of it but whatever I do it seems ineffective so in a final attempt to get rid of the dandruff I bought this! Did it work for me?? Read on to find out!

What Lush claims:

“Cleansing, stimulating, reviving hair moisturizer for mending poorly heads. Hair Doctor will make house calls to inspire sad scalps and revive hair in need of help. There’s Fuller’s earth, a clay which degreases your hair and scalp, stimulating peppermint and rosemary, and chamomile to soothe sore scalps. The Hair Doctor will be sent separately from your main order to UK addresses only. It has a short shelf life of about 3 weeks as it contains no preservatives. It must also be kept refrigerated to ensure it stays fresh as long as possible.”

From the Lush India website

Lush categorizes Hair Doctor as a hair moisturizer. I would call it a “hair savior”!

Price: 450 INR for 100 gms

Ingredients: Water, Irish Moss Powder, Fullers Earth, Irish Moss Decoction, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Almond Oil, Peppermint Oil, Rosemary Absolute, Chamomile Blue Oil, Yeast, Red Henna, Lanolin, Eugenol, Limonene, Linalool

The Lush UK website also provides the following information:

“To improve shine we include red henna and rosemary absolute. For the scalp we put in fullers earth to absorb grease and give a deep down clean to the skin, and peppermint to stimulate the blood flow. With all these together, your hair will feel its old self again very soon.”

How I use it: Since it is thick in consistency, I take 2 tablespoons of the product, mix it with water to make it into a consistency easy enough to apply on the hair. After applying the pack, I massage it on my scalp.

The minty fragrance is overpowering so those with a sensitive nose might want to stay away from this. For those of you who enjoy an earthy minty fragrance you will definitely enjoy this one!

I’ve used the pack 5 times now and I can see a visible improvement. Usually when I take my nail and scratch a part of my scalp I can see the so called “dust dandruff” but it has considerably reduced thanks to The Hair Doctor! Since it has no preservatives the only issue might be to finish 100gms in 3 weeks so you might have to use it twice a week.

The pack is not difficult to wash off. I generally use an anti-dandruff shampoo after washing off the pack and follow it up with a nourishing conditioner. The pack doesn’t improve shine or the texture of the hair in any way.

I would suggest people with dry scalp to stay away from this since it has Fuller’s Earth and might work against you.

Final Word: Fight dandruff the Hair Doctor Way! 😉 On a serious note I would recommend this to anyone who has an oily scalp and is suffering from dandruff.
