Mesmerizing like Marilyn Monroe!

Ten years ago, when I was in Class 10, Deepika had a fantastic hairstyle. The first thing I said to her when I saw it was that it was *just* like Marilyn Monroe’s! Seeing a bunch of old photos and keeping in mind my posts on vintage styles, I decided to write on Marilyn Monroe’s inimitable style, with a few pointers on what one can imbibe from her looks!

Marilyn wasn’t that great an actress – and yet, there is a charm in her that makes you want to consider her fashionable! So here are some things she taught the world of fashion 🙂

The Accessories!

Marilyn Monroe’s stylish accessories brought bling to an era that had none of it! In “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”, she comes across a diamond tiara for the first time and aches to wear it, but she can’t quite figure out where it goes! After she realizes it doesn’t fit like a necklace, she pops the tiara onto her head and announces unabashedly, “I always love finding new places to wear diamonds!” Never mind the diamonds – but why not adopt the love for accessorization?

The Pencil Skirts!

Marilyn Monroe’s signature style involved the beautifully fitted pencil skirt, teamed with cashmere sweaters. Cashmere may not work so neatly in Indian summers, but the idea is definitely capable of being adapted!

Red!

By the 1950s, Marilyn had everyone raging about red as a shade of lipstick. Red lip colour has always been in vogue – and is not something that can quite easily go out. It has a charming appearance on every woman – no matter what their complexion or hair colour!

Short Hair!

Like I said, Deepika looked stunning in the hairstyle. If you want to go short, Marilyn’s style is the perfect fit! For the adventurous, indulgence in platinum blonde is not that bad an idea at all!

Peep-Toe Shoes!

A pedicure well done deserves to be shown! Show off your toes with a cute pair of peep-toe shoes. Marilyn immortalized this style. You needn’t use heels if you don’t want to – you can use it as a sandal or even as pumps.
