Experts suggest it is important to wash your face twice a day for good skin. No more. No less.
The biggest question is – what cleanser should I use? There are several cleansers available in the market – different formulae, different types including gels, scrubs, creams, and containing different ingredients. So, which one is the right one for me?
Skincare isn’t like makeup, one size, unfortunately, does not fit all. And with all the sweat, dirt and other muck on our face at the end of the day, it is vital to use a face cleanser to remove the dirt and let our skin breathe. If not, then the sebum produced by the sebaceous glands under our skin along with the dirt and grime will clog pores leading to blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.
I had to write this prelude because I was sort of questioning if anyone would be interested in a whole post dedicated to reviewing a face wash but I feel every single product I review here has a purpose and may help a few of you.
My skin type: I have extremely dry skin and since I’m in my early 30s, there are signs of ageing as well. I do see fine lines on my face and neck. I have dark circles and blackheads.
Price: 299 INR for 150ml (currently sold at an offer price of 199 INR)
Ingredients:
The St. D’Vencé Morrocan oil and Raw Honey face wash sounded perfect for my dry skin. According to a study by Dr Leslie S. Baumann titled ‘Update on argan oil’ published in Dermatology News on October 11, 2016, argan oil hydrates and nourishes the skin. It is high in Vitamin E and has anti-ageing properties. It is also known to treat acne.
Honey has antimicrobial properties and helps clear clogged pores. It is said to be extremely moisturising and has anti-ageing properties.
The St. D’Vencé Moroccan Argan and Raw Honey face wash also has Aloe vera and Vitamin E among other ingredients.
What the company claims
ST. D’VENCÉ Moroccan Argan Oil & Raw Honey Face Wash is a balanced blend of 100% Pure and Organic Argan Oil, sourced directly from women-run Argan Co-operatives in Morocco and Raw & Wild Honey. Enhanced with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, it is designed to keeps the skin moisturised and hydrated for longer time period. This gentle foaming face wash, acts as a natural blender, maintaining skins balance and preventing premature ageing. With raw honey, it deeply penetrates into your skin nourishing down to the deepest layers of cells, adding a healthy glow. This gentle exfoliating facial wash is SLS, SLES and Paraben free, making it ideal for everyday use.
St. D’Vencé’s product page says this face wash is designed for dry skin.
How to use
I take the quantity dispensed when pumped once. That quantity is sufficient for the face and neck. The face wash is a gel and doesn’t lather when directly applied to the face. It lathers when rubbed vigorously between the palms of my hands. II is slightly difficult to wash off as well.
Fragrance: The list of ingredients claim the face wash has honey flavour apart from raw honey and so the scent of honey is extremely strong.
Does it work?
Well, maybe 30 percent. After trying out and loving the St. D’Vencé Body Moisturiser Autumn Edition I bought the Morrocan Oil and Raw Honey but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectation. I’ve been using this face wash for over a month and a half now in the mornings. There are days when I’ve used this face wash twice a day. So I can safely say I’ve used the product enough to give my review.
The is a gentle face wash but as per the claims, it does not exfoliate in any way. When I use this product, my face and neck feel hydrated but not to an extent I expect it to be and the effect is temporary – last for half an hour at the most. Considering it has raw honey and argan oil, I expect my face to feel soft, nourished but that is just not the case here.
Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Yes, my face wasn’t as dry as it was before I cleansed my face using the face wash but it didn’t feel that nourished as well.
The company claims that the face wash adds a healthy glow and prevents premature ageing. I didn’t see any sign of a healthy glow or prevention of premature ageing. There’s a temporary effect, that is, when I wash my face using this face wash, my face looks bright and clean. But that’s about it. The effects aren’t long term. The ingredients mentioned are supposed to have a long-term effect on the skin if used regularly. The effect fades away in half an hour. So what’s the point really?
A fellow blogger’s review
To begin with, I have never tried any product because I have oily skin and acne issues. At the most, I’ve applied Clindamycin gel to get rid of acne. For a general face wash in the evening , I randomly use any soap/face wash available at home. I have very oily skin and so my skin is extremely prone to acne and it keeps reoccuring every other week.
Only off-late, based on Deepika’s advice, I have actually begun a routine of skincare to nourish and treat my skin. I came to know of St. D’Vencé when she posted a review of the
St. D’Vencé Body Moisturiser Autumn Edition. While browsing on Amazon for a good face wash (that may be good to treat acne), I found the St. D’Vencé Moroccan Argan Oil & Raw Honey Face Wash. I found that it had Argan Oil, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera and Honey. All these ingredients are generally known to treat acne effectively and hence bought it immediately.
Did it work? Well I used it atleast once a day every evening for about a month or so. I found the smell to be of my liking, with a strong honey flavour. It made my skin feel and look fresh and my skin felt much better post a good wash. However I found that every time I used this face wash I had a breakout and it had absolutely no long-term effect. So from my perspective if you’re looking for a face wash with a good scent and ingredients, you can go for this. However if you are looking for an acne fighting face wash, this may not be the one for you.
Editor’s Note: The brand says the face wash is for dry skin but I wanted to include Karthik‘s mini review here since he mentioned that he had breakouts after using this face wash.
Rating: 2/5 ; +1 for the pricing, +1 for ingredients like honey, argan, aloe vera and Vitamin E.
Final Word: St. D’Vencé Moroccan Argan Oil & Raw Honey Face wash did not live up to its claims. Would I repurchase this face wash? No. This does not have any long-term effect on my dry skin.
